Luggage & Suitcases — OEM manufacturing overview

Our luggage line covers both hard-shell cases and soft-side upright suitcases, in cabin, medium, and large sizes or as a matched nested set. We cut our own injection molds in-house, so a bespoke shell shape is an option here rather than something you have to buy from a third-party tooling shop — which also means shell tooling, sampling, and production stay on one schedule we control. Compared with our duffel and holdall styles, luggage carries more component work — wheels, handles, locks, and shells — so lead times and sampling rounds run longer.

Materials & construction

Polycarbonate (PC)

The premium hard-shell material — flexes under impact and returns to shape rather than cracking. Lighter than ABS at equivalent strength, and the usual choice above mid-tier retail price points.

ABS

The entry-level hard shell. Rigid and inexpensive, with good scratch resistance, but more prone to cracking under hard impact than PC. Common for promotional and value retail programs.

ABS+PC Composite

A layered shell that balances PC's impact resilience against ABS's cost — the most common specification for mid-market luggage.

1680D Ballistic Nylon

For soft-side uprights where expandability and external pockets matter more than shell rigidity. Highly abrasion-resistant.

600D Oxford

Value soft-side option, PU-backed for water resistance, typically paired with a reinforced base panel and corner guards.

Customization options

Most of the spec work on a luggage program is component selection: wheel type (double spinner vs. inline), handle stage count, lock type, and whether the case expands. Shell texture — grooved, ribbed, matte, or embossed — is tooling-dependent, and because we cut molds in-house we can quote a fully custom shell profile directly, including the tooling cost and schedule, instead of routing it through an outside mold maker.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MOQ for custom luggage?

Sample MOQ is 1 piece. Bulk MOQ starts at 200 pieces per style and colorway. If the program calls for a bespoke shell mold, the practical minimum is higher so the in-house tooling cost amortizes sensibly — we will quote that trade-off explicitly before you commit.

Why is the lead time longer than for bags?

Luggage depends on sourced components — shells, wheels, telescoping handles, locks — and those have their own lead times that sit in front of assembly. Plan on 25-45 days for bulk after sample approval.

Hard-shell or soft-side — which should I choose?

Hard shells protect contents better and present more cleanly at retail; soft-side uprights are lighter, expandable, and give you external pockets. Most brands launching a single SKU start hard-shell, and add soft-side for a business-travel line.

Can you produce a fully custom shell shape?

Yes — we cut injection molds in-house, so a bespoke shell profile is quoted and scheduled directly with us rather than through an outside tooling shop. A new mold carries its own tooling cost and lead time before sampling can start, so it makes sense at volume; smaller programs usually customize color, texture, lining, and hardware on an existing shell instead.

Do you offer TSA-approved locks?

Yes — TSA combination locks are a standard option, either recessed into the shell or as a side-mounted unit.
